German American Student Exchange Program
This is the principal program of the federation of the German American Clubs (VDAC), and since its existence, the main goal of the organization is to increase understanding and to foster friendship between the Germans and Americans in a very special way. Since the reduction of the NATO troops and the related decline of the American presence in Germany, the student exchange, together with youth work, are of even greater importance for the Organization to achieve. Getting to know and mutual understanding are far better accomplished through study and living in another country.
The German American Women’s Club (GAWC) Heidelberg supports this Program of their federation organization (VDAC) financially and practically, through the voluntary service of their members.
The financial aid is provided from the proceeds of the Pfennig Bazaars.
The GAWC grants a yearly scholarship for one or two students from Heidelberg in order to study in the United States. Furthermore, the club supports the students financially with a furnished apartment.
